What is Pilates?

Pilates is a method of movement and exercise developed by Joseph Pilates, which he called "Contrology." It focuses on breathing, controlled movement, balance, and strengthening and stretching the body to its healthiest potential, with special emphasis on the 'core' or torso. We pay attention to alignment and posture, and we address the small, deep, stabilizing muscles all the way through the whole body as a complex system.

Why Pilates?

We receive many referrals from doctors, chiropractors, and physical therapists. This is because Pilates helps you move better and feel better. It is low impact and translates directly into performing daily activities with more ease, improved posture and awareness. We are able to tailor and modify Private Sessions for knee replacements, hip replacements, osteoporosis, back pain, among many other common conditions. If you're feeling more creaky, stiff, slumped, or uncomfortable in your body, we can help with that!

Pilates assists in building full-body strength, stamina, flexibility, and endurance. Pilates is also fun and feels great!

Do you have a minimum age requirement?

Yes, we work with clients 16 years and older. Clients under 18 years must have a parent signature on their liability waiver to participate.

Why do I need Private Sessions before joining a class?

First and foremost we want our clients to be safe and self-sufficient in using the Pilates equipment in a group class. We want our clients to feel confident and supported and to gain the most benefit from Pilates sessions. Your Private Sessions include body-specific guidance, adjustments, and encouragement to assist you in learning Pilates and practicing it to the best of your ability. The more we know you and your body, the better we can help you in accomplishing your goals.

Is Pilates very difficult? Do I need to be young and/or "in shape" to do it?

We start Private Sessions from your level with your goals in mind. We will work together to help you feel stronger and more body-aware, and then increase difficulty of exercises as you are ready. We want you to succeed! Our clients range in age from teenagers to seniors. We see clients of all shapes, sizes, and abilities. You do not need to be a fitness expert to try Pilates. We recommend always consulting with your doctor prior to beginning any new movement routine.

What do I need to bring with me to the studio?

Our liability waiver and forms should be e-signed and completed online prior to your appointment. Gripper or sticky socks are required during your session. If you have long hair, bring something to put it back for your session so it doesn't get caught on equipment. You may also want to bring a water bottle and a small towel.
